SUMMARY:

Responsible to help shape the future of Nike Swim with the innovation and development of all materials and trims for the entire Nike Swim product range from concept to buy ready status.   This includes product development, calendar, testing, color approval, costing, sourcing and tracker management. Ensures product integrity and product excellence by managing the overall development process.  Thoughtfully executes the global materials/trim strategy to meet business and consumer needs.  Actively contribute to improvements in our end-to-end material and trim development process in accordance with our product creation calendar. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Innovation

  • Develop and drive an innovation roadmap that pushes the brand forward in alignment with Nike Swim’s strategic initiatives and sustainability goals
  • Deliver new and inventive performance solutions for the athlete across all categories of business 
  • Apply research and development to deliver on seasonal advanced concepts

Research

  • Identify and work with suppliers on new material technologies and technical capabilities
  • Remain abreast of market trends, new technologies, and consumer needs
  • Understand and evaluate materials testing and product standards and commercialization feasibility
  • Envision future opportunities and explore new methods of material and make pushing for fresh concepts in either Apparel or Hardgoods
  • Collaborate with all product creation stakeholders on innovation projects 

Development

  • Work with fabric and trim vendors to source and develop necessary fabrics and trims from research/concepts to full execution
  • Manage hang tag and label development for Apparel and Hardgoods.  Work closely with Product Integrity teams for compliance, vendors for development and execution and maintain accurate and detailed documentation/systems information.
  • Manage vendor relationships and set up vendor meetings
  • Responsible for print development; work with liaison offices/vendors to ensure correct technique and execution of prints consulting design team when necessary
  • Ensure fabrics and trims are sourced to meet quality standards and work with the Quality Control team for testing and approvals
  • Work with liaison office to conduct research and testing on new trim materials and techniques to determine their suitability for Nike's products
  • Send out fabric and trim forms with color standards to the liaison office and/or vendors for color approvals
  • Travel to fabric trade shows and factories to help with product research and development
  • Manage and adhere to the product management key milestones deliverables and deadlines

Communication & Organization

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including meeting facilitation and presentations internally and externally 
  • Demonstrate information -seeking skills, a drive to make things happen, along with the ability to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse team
  • Be accountable for collaboration and creation of SOPs to support department efficiencies. Renew SOPs as business needs change
  • Provide material expertise and education to cross-functional teams and business partners
  • Communicates status of overall development to key cross-functional partners in Merchandising and Design
  • Review weekly progress on all aspects of development, and lead weekly meetings with the Design, Merchandising, & Tech teams to discuss progress and any issues
  • Works with stakeholders to resolve development issues and ensure high product integrity.  
  • Work with the Design team for comments and approvals on all fabric, trim, & print development
  • Manage communication of all aspects of development with oversea liaison offices
  • Maintain development files per season on all fabrics, trims, and prints
  • Responsible for maintaining the status of all fabrics, trims, & prints in PLM (development)
  • Demonstrate flexibility and manage ambiguity to adjust workload focus ad business needs change

Samples

  • Create P.O.’s for all sample fabric & print orders
  • Manage sales sample order process, issue P.O. by the factory, follow up weekly to ensure sample development hits deadline to receive
  • Hand internal samples off to Merchandising. Allocate sample to Sales team via DC
  • Responsible for coordinating all in house samples needs through PDX sew room
  • Responsible for ordering all fabrics and trims for PDX sew room

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-8 + years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel, Merchandising, or a related field
  • A solid foundation of apparel construction
  • Strong working knowledge in design, development, research, materials, and manufacturing in the apparel industry
  • Knowledge of printing processes and techniques
  • Strong eye for color and the ability to decipher differences between shades
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and work in a fast pace environment with multiple deadlines
  • Good computer skills & knowledge of Web PDM or PLM, Essentus, Excel, and other programs
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage projects with multiple stakeholders and calendar deadlines
